Barossa Valley – Negroamaro
The fruit for this wine was harvested on the 10th of April from the Kalleske family vineyard in the Koonunga Hill sub region of the Barossa Valley. The grapes were fermented in stainless steel for 9 days before being barrelled down to third-fill French oak Hogsheads for 8 months maturation prior to bottling.

Medium to deep brick-red colour. Blackberries, liquorice and cedar shaving aromas. The palate shows good weight and intensity of fruit, matched to a wood-spice and earthen note. Flows quite deep with gravelly tannins to control the line. An intriguing interplay of Barossa intensity with Italianate structure.

Kalleske Koonunga Hill vineyard. Matured 16 months in older French oak hogsheads. Accurate, varietal and tangy. Spicy redcurrants and fleshy blackberries define a fruit-focused palate. Oak takes a rightful 2nd place, leaving finely textured fruit tannins and bright acidity to take the lead on a long finish. Well played.

This is winner, a gorgeous mouthful of exotic grape which is a workhorse in Italy’s Puglia region. Aromatic, fruity, gamey and earthy at the same time, a gorgeous mouthful that would stand up to rich dishes. Drink sooner rather than later.
